Naomi came over and we returned to Hawally for another go at finding music shops.
First stop was Youssef's oud shop. This time Alia came with us, and was able to translate. It turns out that Youssef is from Egypt, and is also a Coptic Christian - Alia could tell from the cross tattoed on his wrist.
Youssef looked at my poor damaged ukulele and immediately said he could fix it. He took it off, and fiddled for a bit, then asked to keep it for a few days. Meanwhile, we got a better look into the workshop where somebody was busy making an oud.
We enquired about taking some oud lessons - somebody teaches at the shop, and it would be possible for us to learn. So I'm giving that some thought.
Still no ukuleles.
