I am feeling so much better, the fog is lifting and things are looking good.
And today we had our very first ukulele meeting/rehearsal. Naomi, Carolyn and I met up here, and played through a few songs. A bit rusty, but fine, and we are brimming with enthusiasm. I have just finished writing an article for the EEK! expat online magazine, I'll add it to this post so you can read it if you so wish.
I also received a very nice email from a woman who has just move to Kuwait - about the same day as us, practically - and read all of this blog. Here is a bit of her email (I hope she doesn't mind me putting it here...)
You told me about your blog and I found it today and read the whole thing. I loved it. You capture all the nuances of being a newbie in this weird ad wonderful country. I was also really moved by your honesty - the tears, the fears, the panic, the longing for friends and "normality". This is my first experience of being a expat and I have tried to approach it with good humour and a real sense of adventure. Nonetheless I recognised all the same emotions as you and realised I have probably not been fair to myself by trying to disguise them. I got quite teary several times reading your blog! anyway, I love the blog - you have been to some really interesting places already here and I would love to catch up and have coffee sometime.
It is so great to know people are reading this and finding it interesting and useful. I have to admit, I even find my own blog pretty interesting, and I sometimes go back and re read old posts to remind myself of what we've done.
On another note, Lenny donned his new winter school uniform today, for the first time. It is actually cool these days, and apparently set to get even cooler, even cold. The winter uniform is gorgeous - for boys, long sleeves and trousers, and a tie, and a lovely jumper. The girls uniform is even gorgeouser - they look like little French school girls from an old movie. Lenny was thrilled to look just like his dad this morning. Michael taught Lenny how to tie the schoolboy knot - truly a rite of passage! Here they are, pleased as punch, like father like son.
